Darning Egg
- Our Darning eggs are hand crafted in Lincolnshire , by our wood turner Ed. Using locally sourced new wood, to give it a smooth tight grained finished, so it will not snag on clothing. All our eggs, just like in nature, will vary in size and shape. The one illustrated has a flat bottom for photography.
- if you’re working on smaller items like small socks, the darning egg is your go-to. For larger repairs, reach for the darning mushroom. Both tools play essential roles in exten as ding the life of our beloved textiles!
- Darning Egg:
- A darning egg gets its name from its rounded egg shape. Our Eggs are made from hard wood, typically Oak.
- The egg shape allows it to fit snugly inside a sock, providing tension around the hole.
- When you’re darning, you place the sock inside out and pull it over the darning egg. This maintains the curved shape of the sock and holds the hole in place for clean stitches1.
- Darning eggs are especially useful for repairing socks and other small garments.
